Despite its relatively low mileage of 400 since delivery, daily use can swiftly lead to unsightly imperfections on any vehicle, even this Porsche Taycan 4S. The goal for the day was to refine the paintwork and address minor defects. However, upon closer inspection, specific areas demanded more significant attention than anticipated. Once these imperfections were addressed, the paint was prepared meticulously and primed for the application of a protective coating.
To begin, Matt set about removing any contamination that managed to build up on the bodywork within the first 400 miles of ownership. Starting with a layer of Citrus Pre wash and a thick blanket of foam, applied through an mjjc v3 snow foam lance. Gtechniq Gwash shampoo was used during the contact wash as it produces a high foam content which breaks the bond between the dirt film and the vehicles paintwork. The shampoo lubricates dirt particles, minimising surface abrasion, maximising gloss retention.
Prior to the drying and polishing process, the car received a thorough spray of Gtechniq W7 Iron & Fallout remover as an extra precaution against any stubborn deposits still clinging to the paint. Leaving any form of contamination on the paint surface during the machine polishing stage could potentially exacerbate imperfections rather than rectify them.
Transitioning to the drying phase, we carefully maneuverer the car into the bay and introduced the BLO AIR-GT for a touchless drying experience. This powerful tool efficiently eliminates water in those tricky, hard-to-reach spots such as wheel nuts and wing mirror folds - areas where a conventional towel might not easily reach.
After the paint dried, it was finally time for a thorough assessment. With the surface clean and under optimal lighting, it became evident that there were two primary areas of concern on the vehicle. These areas might lead to adjustments in the choice of pad and polish combination and could even need sanding.
During the polishing process, we employed a Rupes Bigfoot machine polisher paired with a Rupes Yellow Wool pad to tackle the deeper marks visible on the surface. We utilized the 3D Car Care ONE Compound & Polish for this phase. Following that, we switched to a Rupes yellow foam pad to ensure a stunning, high-gloss finish.
