1. A Very Special Huracan

As one of the new kids on the supercar block, the Huracaán has received several variants in its relatively short existence. There is currently a rear-wheel drive version, a topless Spyder model, and a number of limited editions, but none have been as specialized and potent as the new Performante. Every part of this special Huracan has been fined-tuned to kick ass, from the aerodynamics and chassis tuning to the powertrain and overall weight.

2. Nürburgring Record-Breaker

The adrenaline-infused baby Lambo was already in the spotlight well before its official unveiling at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, with the claim that it beat the significantly more expensive Porsche 918 Spyder to set a new Nürburgring lap record for the fastest production car. It’s time? 6:52:01 compared to the Porsche’s 6:57 lap. There are auto enthusiasts out who can’t or don’t want to swallow the Huracan Performante’s accomplishment, but what reason does Lamborghini have to lie, especially when considering the company and Porsche are part of the Volkswagen Group? Rather than enter into a senseless debate, let’s go over the many things Lamborghini’s engineers and designers did to create what can be viewed as an ultimate machine…

3. Same Engine, More Power

You might be surprised to find out that the amazing Huracan Performante isn’t packing any new hardware under its hood. Rather, Lamborghini’s engineers took the same 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine as the rest of the Huracan family, reduced its weight by 40 kg (88 lbs) and upgraded it with an improved air intake, redesigned exhaust, new titanium valves and optimized fluid dynamics for the intake and exhaust. The end result is 631 horsepower (640 PS) at 8000 rpm and 443 lb-ft. (600 Nm) of torque at 6500 rpm, an improvement of 30 HP (30 PS) and 40 Nm (30 lb-Ft.) of torque over the regular LP610-4 Coupe.

4. Beefed-Up Transmission for Faster Acceleration

More than 70 percent of the Huracan Performante’s 443 lb-ft. of torque is available at 1000 rpm, a level of performance that required engineers to beef up the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. All in all, the Italian supercar can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds from a standstill and to 124 mph (200 km/h) in 8.9 seconds before reaching a top speed of over 202 mph (325 km/h) if given enough tarmac. That makes the Performante 0.3sec and 1.0sec quicker, respectively, than the regular Huracan, though they both have the same top speeds. Those acceleration times are probably conservative estimates, seeing as a publication like Car and Driver was able to launch the regular Huracan to 60mph in only 2.5 seconds in one of their instrumented tests.

5. Superior Suspension and Brakes

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante also benefits from a heavily-revised suspension system that’s 10 percent stiffer overall to provide better track performance. The front and rear control-arm setup has conventional dampers, but they can be swapped for adaptive magnetorheological units. Other performance highlights include an electronically-controlled four-wheel drive system with a limited-slip rear differential, 20-inch forged wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires specifically-developed for the car, and ventilated and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic rotors with six-piston calipers in the front and four-pot binders in the rear. Bringing the Huracan Performante to a complete stop from 62 mph (100 km/h) takes 101.7 feet (31 meters), which is 3 feet (0.9 meters) less than the regular Huracan.

6. Cutting Through Air Like a Boss

Lamborghini’s engineers developed a new aerodynamics system specifically for the Huracan Performante. Called Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA), it mostly features carbon fiber composite materials in its construction. The system incorporates the front and rear spoiler, engine bonnet, air ducts and active flaps, rear bumper with diffuser, with each individual part acting in milliseconds to provide more downforce for cornering and less drag at speed when needed. There is also a rear wing with a split internal air channel for aero vectoring that improves high-speed cornering. Lamborghini claims ALA is 80 percent lighter than a hydraulically controlled aero system and helps the Performante create 750 percent more downforce than the regular Huracán.

7. Race Car Styling

The exterior design of the Huracan Performante is said to reflect the pure lines and performance of Lamborghini Super Trofeo race cars. It also draws inspiration from naked performance motorcycles, notably the exposed frames and ‘streetfighter’ structures of their rear ends, and highlights its active aerodynamics (ALA) and lightweight build. 8. Sports Car Interior with CarPlay

The racy interior is inspired by the exterior, featuring dark colored Alcantara fabric throughout and air vents, shift paddles, door handles, and center console that are all made of carbon composite. It also boasts a new graphic display that shows the driver when and how the ALA is working, including the dynamic aero adjustments. Apple CarPlay and its various iPhone apps are supported, including the Lamborghini telemetry system that allows drivers to record and replay their own performance.
